Eildon Holiday Cottages

The myth makers would have us believe that the Eildon Hills are a place of magic and Arthurian legends lost in the mists of time.

Fact or fiction, the Eildons are an outstandingly beautiful Borders landmark and a suitable backdrop for the multi-award winning Eildon Holiday Cottages development run by Tom and Jill Hart.

Nestled at the foot of the Eildons’ gentle north side slopes and overlooking the town of Melrose, the cottages offer superb facilities for visitors to enjoy the Borders in all its diversity.

What makes this tourist facility extra special is that it also opens up a holiday break dimension for wheelchair users and the severely disabled.

There are six cottages, spacious, warm, bright and very well equipped. Five are Category 1 (suitable for wheelchair users travelling independently) and have very special facilities for disabled and elderly guests. Access is easy and level throughout.

In each of the cottages, converted from buildings dating back to the 1830’s, there is at least one bedroom with shower or bathroom on the ground floor. The facilities for less able visitors are subtle and unobtrusive. “This is a unique development and people come back to us year after year. I suppose 40% of our bookings are repeats,” said Tom.

The winning formula at Eildon Holiday Cottages has won accolades from the National Civic Trust, Scottish Tourist Board and the Holiday Care Service among others.

And plans are now at an advanced stage for the Hart’s to repeat the process at a 13th century manor near Toulouse in the south of France.
