Description:
One of the four great Border Abbeys built during the 12th century. Home of the Cistercian Order in the reign of David I. Originally very plain, when it was rebuilt in the 15th century, it became very ornate. Much still standing. Reputed to be the burial place of the heart of Robert the Bruce.
The Commendator�s House close by houses artefacts and carvings which have been found over the years.

How to get there:
By car: situated in the town of Melrose.
By public transport: regular bus services to and from Melrose to Galashiels, Earlston, Kelso and Jedburgh. Link to Newcastle and Rail link at Berwick.

Open all year.

Opening Hours:
1st April to 30th Sept - Daily 9.30am to 6.30pm.
1st Oct to 31st March - Mon to Sat - 9.30am to 4.30pm
Last entry 30 minutes before closing.
