Description:
The summit of Eildon North Hill is crowned by the largest hillfort in Scotland. Built in the 10th century BC, this fortified site contains platforms for nearly 300 huts and may have served as a focus for periodic gatherings by the scattered hill communities. When the Romans arrived in the Borders in the late 1st century AD, they built a watch tower on the summit of the hill and the shallow ditch which enclosed it can still be seen today.
St Cuthbert's Way crosses the Eildon Hills on its way from Melrose to Lindisfarne.

By car: Close to the town of Melrose. Access by footpath from Melrose Square - south up Dingleton Road. Follow signs.
