It's not every guest house that comes with its own private loch and grounds that include a site of special scientific interest. But they, and a whole lot more, await visitors to the splendid Garden House at Whitmuir, a cosy and welcoming retreat set amidst 400 acres of beautiful Border countryside just outside Selkirk. Your hosts are Hilary Dunlop and her husband Robert whose family has farmed the land around Whitmuir for over 250 years. Hilary ran an Edinburgh based business marketing self catering accommodation in the City and surrounding area before opting for a more hands-on approach six years ago. That’s when the Garden House opened its doors to guests who have been flocking there ever since. “The informal and relaxed atmosphere at Garden House goes down well with our guests and we get a lot of repeat business. |
“Being a dog friendly and horse friendly establishment also appeals to a lot of people and the location is perfect for exploring this wonderful part of the world. “In addition to the four bedroom suites and a single room at Garden House we also have the Garden Cottage available for rent. Our land joins with the Selkirk Common and there are a lot of lovely walks literally on the doorstep. “The loch makes a wonderful giant swimming pool on warm summer days and is the perfect place for a picnic. “And, if any guests fancy a spot of course fishing for pike or perch, they are more than welcome to try,” said Hilary. |
